Microsoft has announced that as of 13 October 2020, they will no longer be supporting their Office 2010 software suite and recommend that users consider upgrading their MS Office packages immediately. This is in line with the initial life cycle expectation, which was set at ten years. We examine what impact this will have on existing Office 2010 users.
How will Office 2010 Users be Affected?
Although Office 2010 users will still be able to use the software, Microsoft will no longer provide security updates relating to the package which opens users up to security risks from unscrupulous hackers. It also means that no further bug fixes or technical support will be available for this package in the future.
What Options are Available to Office 2010 Users?
Current users have the option of taking the risk and continuing to use their current package, (in the knowledge that it will not have any further support and that they may open themselves to security breaches), or they can upgrade to the Microsoft 365, (formerly Office 365), subscription service which was revealed in March 2020.
What is Microsoft 365?
This productivity cloud combines advanced security features with powerful cloud services and some of the best Apps and feature updates that are not available elsewhere. By purchasing this subscription, users will continue to have access to Apps such as Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and more. Office 365 also comes with the versatile Microsoft Teams App, which enables users to communicate and collaborate more effectively.
What Technical Support is Available for Microsoft 365?
Microsoft has an excellent network of high-quality partners who are experts at setting up, deploying and onboarding Microsoft 365 users. This is an area where Westech, a premium IT support company excels at developing customised solutions.
